Chillicothe Disc Golf Community Enjoys New Course Installation

Writer: Austin TyoAustin Tyo

The Chillicothe Disc Golf Course in Yoctangee Park has drawn outdoor athletic enthusiasts from around the county.

The 18-hole course was designed by David Williams and includes open and wooded fairways. Students from Chillicothe High School have access to it as the new course lies adjacent to the high school campus.

"I played disc golf once with Austin," said Chillicothe student Jeremy Oates, who is a disc golf newbie. "The course we went to was pretty user friendly, but it's not so fun when you don't throw it right and it just dives straight into the ground."

The most challenging hole is #17 due to the hyzer line, surrounding trees and shrubbery, and downhill nature, according to a local disc golf aficionado.

"It's very peaceful," said Chillicothe student Kayden Aftyka. "I like walking and seeing the different places in Yoctangee Park."

The disc golf course is free to anyone to use.

Beginners should bring a driver, mid-range, and putter discs. They can be purchased at sporting-goods stores.
